Samsung announces industry’s first 200MP image sensor capable of 8K video recording
On September 2, Thursday, electronics giant Samsung announced the introduction of the ISOCELL HP1, the industry’s first 200 megapixel (MP) phone camera image sensor with pixels of 0.64μm. According to the company’s claim, this is the first image sensor to adopt Dual Pixel Pro technology of all-direction focusing with two photodiodes in a single 1.0μm pixel. Samsung has named the HP1’s pixel clustering technology “ChameleonCell”. The ISOCELL HP1 is said to be the industry’s first phone camera image sensor to support 200 megapixels. Based on the company’s most advanced 0.64μm pixels, the latest technology delivers ultra-high resolution in a small package that fits comfortably in today’s portable devices.
Latest Highest Resolution Phone Camera Can Record 8K Video
Using the latest in-vehicle technology, the world leader in advanced semiconductor technology has claimed that ISOCELL HP1 technology will help the gadget retain an amazing amount of detail even when the image is cropped or resized. The HP1 transforms into a 12.5 megapixel image sensor with large 2.56μm pixels by merging 16 neighboring pixels in a low light environment. The newly formed 2.56μm pixel is able to absorb more light and sensitivity, producing brighter and clearer photos indoors or in the evening. The sensor’s 200 million pixels can capture ultra-high definition photographs on mobile devices in bright outdoor environments, Samsung said.
“The ISOCELL HP1 can shoot 8K video at 30 frames per second (fps) with minimal loss in field of view. The HP1 merges four neighboring pixels to bring the resolution down to 50MP or 8192 x 6144 to shoot 8K ( 7,680 x 4,320) videos without the need to crop or reduce the full image resolution,” reads the statement posted by the tech giant on its blog. “Samsung pioneered ultra-thin pixel technologies that take high-resolution image sensors to the next level,” said Duckhyun Chang, executive vice president of the sensor business at Samsung Electronics. “With the barrier-breaking ISOCELL HP1 and ISOCELL GN5 bringing ultra-fast autofocus, Samsung will continue to lead the trend of next-generation mobile imaging technologies.”
